Sustainability — Wellness Sabbatical Bali’s Environmental & Community Commitments

Sustainability & Community Impact

At Wellness Sabbatical Bali, we believe that personal well-being is intrinsically linked to the well-being of our environment and our communities. Our commitment to sustainability is not an afterthought; it is a core principle woven into every aspect of our operations, guided by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—harmony with God, people, and nature. We are dedicated to creating transformative experiences that not only enrich our clients’ lives but also protect and uplift the beautiful island of Bali.

Environmental Commitments

We recognize that luxury travel has an environmental footprint, and we take concrete steps to minimize our impact and contribute positively to conservation.

  • Carbon Offsetting Program: For every sabbatical booked, we calculate the carbon footprint of the associated flights and ground transportation. We then invest in certified carbon offset projects, such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD+ project in Kalimantan, to ensure each journey is carbon-neutral.
  • Strict Single-Use Plastic Policy: We have a zero-tolerance policy for single-use plastics in our direct operations. Furthermore, we exclusively partner with villas and resorts that have demonstrated a tangible commitment to plastic reduction, such as those with on-site water bottling facilities and non-plastic bathroom amenities. Many of our partners hold certifications like Green Globe.
  • Marine Conservation Support: A percentage of our revenue from all marine-based activities is donated directly to the Coral Triangle Center (CTC) in Sanur. This contribution supports their vital work in marine protected area management and training for local communities to become stewards of their marine resources.
  • Responsible Sourcing: We prioritize partners who practice sustainable sourcing, from farm-to-table dining concepts that use organic, locally grown produce to villas constructed with sustainable, locally sourced materials like bamboo and reclaimed teak.

Community & Cultural Commitments

Our business is a guest in Bali, and we honor our host community by ensuring our presence is a positive and empowering force.

  • Local Employment & Fair Wages: We are committed to local hiring. Over 90% of our on-the-ground team members are from local Balinese communities. We provide above-average wages, comprehensive health insurance (BPJS), and ongoing professional development to foster long-term careers.
  • Supporting Local Artisans & Entrepreneurs: Our itineraries are designed to create direct economic benefits for local communities. We facilitate private workshops with master artisans in villages like Celuk (silversmithing) and Mas (woodcarving), ensuring the artists are compensated fairly and their traditions are honored and preserved.
  • Community Development Projects: Through our parent company, Juara Holding Group, we actively support the ‘Yayasan Tri Hita Karana Bali’. Our contributions fund community-led projects focused on waste management infrastructure in rural villages and cultural preservation initiatives, such as the restoration of traditional irrigation systems (subak).
  • Authentic, Respectful Cultural Immersion: We educate our clients on local customs and etiquette to ensure all interactions are respectful. We facilitate authentic experiences, such as attending a temple ceremony with a local family, that foster genuine connection and mutual understanding, rather than superficial observation.

By choosing a wellness sabbatical with us, you are not only investing in yourself but also becoming a partner in our mission to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Bali for generations to come.
